Auction of number plate 1 D
From http://www.regtransfers.co.uk — The Auction of UK private number plate 1 D on 25th March 2009 at Ardencote Manor Hotel and Country Club, Claverdon, Warwickshire.
1 D became the third most expensive UK car registration ever sold when it achieved a hammer price of £285,000. With fees and Taxes, the full cost to the purchase was a spectacular £352,411.
The registration was bought by Lebanese property developer Nabil Bishara who bought the plate as a birthday present for his wife.
Although it was not the most expensive UK number plate ever, taking second place behind F 1 which achieved a price of £440,625 in 2008, 1 D did set a new record for the most expensive plate sold at a DVLA auction,.

Over £300,000? That’s incredible. Aren’t number plate prices affected by the recession? They just seem to keep going up!
